Yamaha recalled these twice (NHTSA 03V309000 and 06V397000) for transmission gear and circlip defects that can lock the rear wheel while riding. Have a Yamaha dealer run the VIN to confirm both recalls were completed — the recall fix is still free. On the test ride, a gear popping out under acceleration means the work was never done and a paid teardown is coming.
