Cylinder base gasket oil weep
A slow oil weep from the cylinder base gasket is a common DR650 complaint on owner forums. Look for a damp, dusty oil line where the cylinder meets the crankcase. It rarely strands you, but a proper fix means lifting the top end, so use a weeping gasket to negotiate the price down.

Neutral sending unit screws backing out
The screws holding the neutral sending unit inside the left engine cover can back out, and a loose screw dropping into the spinning engine can destroy it — one of the most repeated warnings on DR650 owner forums. The preventive fix is simple: pull the cover and reinstall the screws with thread-locker, an hour or two of shop time. Ask whether the 'NSU fix' has been done; with no records, budget for it immediately.
