Regulator/rectifier overheats and fails

The regulator/rectifier overheats and stops charging, leaving the bike dead in traffic — Triumph recalled 2008-2009 units (12V445000), and NHTSA complaints show failures on later years too. Check for about 14 volts at the battery at 3,000 rpm and ask whether an aftermarket MOSFET regulator was fitted — that is the fixed-right answer. A dash that dims at idle is a warning sign.
