Can-am Spyder RT (2010–2013): what actually fails

The documented failure patterns on used Can-am Spyder RTs — the mileage window where each shows up, and what the repair typically costs at an independent shop. This is the same data NoLemon's Brief checks against every VIN.

2010–2013 TYPICAL 0k–50k MI UP TO $800

998 V-twin excessive heat, boiling fuel and fume smell

The 998 V-twin RT runs hot enough to boil fuel: complaints describe raw-gas smell after parking, dripping overflow, vapor-lock stalls, and roasted legs, and BRP recalled every 2013 RT for fire risk from overheating (NHTSA 15V095000). Verify the recall work was done and sniff for fuel after a good hot test ride. The 2014-up 1330 triple fixed this — on a 998, budget for heat-mitigation parts.

2010–2013 TYPICAL 3k–40k MI $900–$2,000

DPS power-steering failure / limp mode

RT owners report the power-steering assist quitting at speed, often with no fault code stored. Ride long enough for the machine to fully heat-soak and feel for steering that suddenly goes heavy. Ask whether the DPS unit was ever replaced and get the paperwork — a new unit plus labor runs well over a thousand dollars.
